Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley

Te Whatu Ora Capital Coast operates three hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

Dentists

Free dental care birth-18 years

Free basic dental treatment is available for all teenagers until the day before their 18th birthday, although you will need to check that the dentist of your choice provides this service.

Bee Healthy Regional Dental Service is a community dental service for children in the region aged from birth to 18 years. Mobile dental units visit every school to provide a free annual examination. If treatment is required, it is provided at community dental clinics.

All dentists are registered with the Dental Council of New Zealand. Use their website to find a dentist near you.

Local health centres and doctors (GPs)

Doctors (GPs)  are fully trained medical doctors who can advise you on your health and refer you for further tests or specialist treatment if needed. GPs are registered with a Primary Health Organisation (PHO). 

Enrolling with your local doctor will save you money and help keep you and your family healthy.

Lower Hutt

After Hours Medical Centre is located at 729 High Street. For accidents and serious illness you should go to the Emergency Department at Hutt Hospital.

Upper Hutt Health Centre

Queen Street Carpark, Upper Hutt. Open weekdays 8.30am to 5pm. After hours 5pm to 8pm, Weekends 9am to 6pm (closed 1pm to 2pm), Public holidays: 10am to 5pm.

Plunket

The Plunket Society (Plunket) offers information, support and developmental assessments of children at varying stages between birth and 5 years. They also organise car seat education services, parenting education and parenting groups. See the links below for services in your area.

Plunket also offers a free parent helpline and advice service available to all families and caregivers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call 0800 933 922 for parenting help.
