Work in New Zealand

If you want to work in New Zealand, consider which visa opportunity best suits you

NewZealandNow is intended to help you consider the wonderful opportunities of living and working here.  Now.

And to work here you need a work visa.

There are many types of work visas.  Some are for short periods, of 1 to 3 years in duration, and are called temporary.  Other visas are more permanent and even offer the benefits of residency. These are called permanent visas.

To make it easier to determine which is best for you – and how to begin the application process – we’ve compiled two simple paths:

  • If you already know which visa you want, and simply want more information about that visa, follow the menu to the left
  • If you are unsure about which visa is best for you, a brief description follows

Temporary work policy - Ideal for short term opportunities or as a starting point to experience life in New Zealand.  To find out more, click here.

Work to Residence policy - Special categories to experience life in New Zealand where you start qualifying for residency from day one, so you can either stay for a short time or apply to stay for as long as you like.  To find out more, click here.

Residence policy - For those who want to make New Zealand your permanent home.  To find out more, click here.

Helpful Tips –

  • Most of the visa options require you to have a job or job offer, so it may be helpful to come down on a visitor’s visa in order to search for jobs and interview with New Zealand employers
  • If you don’t qualify under the policy you are most interested in, it is worth taking a look at the other policies.  For instance, if you don’t qualify for a visa under the residency policy you could still qualify for a work-to-residence visa
  • If you have a specific question you don’t see answered here, why not ask our Knowledge Base?   And if that still leaves your questions unanswered, contact you nearest Immigration NZ Branch.
