Bay of Plenty Healthcare
Excellent health services are available throughout the region. However depending on your condition or where you live, you may have to travel to Tauranga or Rotorua to access services.
In Rotorua if you ring 111 for an ambulance in an emergency and you do not have residency status, the charge is $800.
There are 3 public hospitals in the Bay of Plenty region:

There is one Southern Cross hospital in Rotorua, and a partner hospital in Tauranga

All dentists are registered with the Dental Council of New Zealand. Use their website to find a dentist near you.
Local Health Centres and doctors (GPs)
Doctors (GPs) are fully trained medical doctors who can advise you on your health and refer you for further tests or specialist treatment if needed. GPs are registered with a Primary Health Organisation (PHO).

After hours clinics
There are several after-hours medical facilities in the Bay of Plenty.
Accident & HealthCare Medical Centre is Tauranga's largest walk-in medical facility, open from 8am to 9pm every day of the year.
Rotorua after hours accident and urgent healthcare is available at Lakes Primecare.
If you are feeling unwell or need some urgent medical advice, Healthline offers a 24 hour health service over the phone. You can call them on 0800 611 116.
After hours pharmacies
The Doctor or health practitioner who writes your prescription will probably know the one closest to you. The centres listed above both have pharmacies associated with them. Lakes Care Pharmacy is the only after hours Pharmacy in Rotorua.
The Plunket Society (Plunket) offers information, support and developmental assessments of children at varying stages between birth and 5 years. They also organise car seat rental schemes, parenting education and parenting groups. See these links for services in your area.
Plunket also offers a free parent helpline and advice service available to all families and caregivers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call 0800 933 922 for parenting help.
Having a baby

The Parent Centre has second-hand kids gear, parents courses, workshops, and support networks.
SPACE - Supporting Parents Alongside Children's Education
SPACE is a programme for first time parents. Sessions run weekly for through the first year of your child’s life.
Parent to Parent
Parent to Parent is a support and information network for parents who have children and family members with disabilities, health impairments or special needs. Services for Rotorua are part of the Central Lakes Districts.
Senior Line is a phone service and online portal with information for older people and their carers who are making decisions about staying at home, retirement villages, day care options and rest homes.
Hospice is specialist care given to those with life-limiting illness. They provide hospice care in the region free of charge and in the setting of their choice.
