New Zealand offers a range of work visas. All are temporary, though some can lead to residence.

Working holiday visa

You can apply for a Working holiday visa if you are aged either 18 to 30 or 18 to 35, depending on your citizenship. This visa is especially for young people who want to travel and work in New Zealand for up to 12 months (or up to 23 months if you are from the UK or Canada).

Work to Residence visas

There are 2 main types of Work to Residence visa - both allow you to work in New Zealand temporarily and then to apply for a Residence from Work visa after at least 24 months in the job.

Work to Residence: Long Term Skill Shortage work visa

You can apply for this visa if:

  • you have a permanent or long-term job offer, and
  • the job is in an occupation on the Long Term Skill Shortage List, and
  • your qualifications and experience match those required, and
  • you meet the age, health and character requirements.
