Newly issued debt securities can be bought through investment advisers or sharebrokers, and through the NZDX Market. The NZDX Market also provides a secondary market where investors can buy and sell debt securities, including corporate and Government bonds, through NZX advisers.
Government securities – Kiwi Bonds - can be purchased by members of the public through some registered banks, NZX brokers, chartered accountants, solicitors, investment advisers and investment brokers. They’re not an option if you’re a resident outside New Zealand, even if you hold New Zealand citizenship.
If you are eligible, you can buy Kiwi Bonds through certain registered banks, NZX brokers, chartered accountants, solicitors, investment advisers and investment brokers. Kiwi Bonds have a credit rating of AA+, just beneath the highest possible. Terms are six months, one year, two years or four years.
Changing your investment
You can move your investment funds from one acceptable investment to another during the investment period. Before moving your investment you should contact Immigration New Zealand to ensure your new investment will be accepted.
