Temporary Housing

With our abundance of space, many people who live in New Zealand have the luxury of living in a house or villa – often with other people. We call it flatting. But if apartment-style living is more your cup of tea, New Zealand’s largest cities (especially Auckland) offer that option too.

A few tips…

  • Staying in hostels (or backpackers as we call them) can be great if you’re travelling around or when you first arrive. But you’ll probably want to find a flat or apartment if you’re intending to settle down for a few months.
  • TradeMe.co.nz is one of NZ’s most popular sites for listing properties for rent, people looking for flatmates and even job openings. So definitely check it out.
  • Check the lease before settling on a flat or apartment – does it suit your intended period of stay?
  • Feeling adventurous? Try out CouchSurfing – connect with fellow surfers online to find a couch to sleep on for free!
