Important Notes about Work Visas
This option is ideal for people who are keen on the New Zealand lifestyle but want to be certain before making the commitment to move permanently. It is also a useful step if you have an application pending under the Skilled Migrant Category and would like to start work quickly.
Requirements
Provided you meet the health and character requirements of Immigration New Zealand, and have evidence of your relevant qualifications and work experience, you are likely to be eligible for a work visa or permit if you have an offer of employment that is:
-
for an occupation in demand here in New Zealand that is listed on the current Skills Shortage List or
-
from an employer who has a current Approval in Principle to recruit a person from overseas, or
-
from an employer who has evidence that there are no suitable trained or qualified New Zealanders available or readily able to do the work offered.
A work visa can also be issued for people coming to New Zealand for a specific purpose or event for a particular period, such as a senior business person on secondment, or an entertainer, performing artist, film or video crew or support personnel, or sports player, referee or professional sports coach.
