Qualifications Needed for Acceptance

To qualify for the Silver Fern Practical Experience visa you must:

• Hold a valid Silver Fern Job Search visa
• Have a valid job offer which is current for a period of at least 12 months
• Hold occupational registration in New Zealand if it is required for the job
• Meet the health and character requirements
• Not have held previous Silver Fern Practical Experiences visas totalling more than two years.

What do I need to know about the job offer required?

Your employment must be skilled, full time, current for at least 12 months and paid by salary or wages or in terms of a contract for service (not by commission or retainer).

Do I have to work for the same employer for the entire two years?

You may work for up to two employers. Each valid job offer must be for a period of at least 12 months. If you switch employers you’ll need to re-apply under the Silver Fern Practical Experience visa.

Does my employer need to prove that they were unable to fill the position with a New Zealander?

No, that is not a requirement for the Silver Fern Practical Experience visa.

Can I apply online?

No, the application must be printed and submitted in hard copy.
