Qualifying for an Essential Skills visa relates to both your ability to demonstrate suitability to hold that job (your qualifications and/or experience), and to the employer demonstrating their inability to find a New Zealand candidate to fill the position.

Not if you are applying to stay in New Zealand for less than six months you will not. For stays between 6 and 12 months you may need to have a chest x-ray and for any stay of more than 12 months you will need to complete a full medical exam.
