If you have established, invested in or purchased a business in New Zealand  -- and been self-employed in that business in New Zealand for a minimum of two years – an application for permanent residence under the Entrepreneur category may be the best option for you.

FAQs

Is this visa policy right for me?
The answer is yes, if you:

  • Own or are a substantial investor in a business in New Zealand
  • Have been self-employed in that business in New Zealand for at least two years
  • Have held a work permit under the Long Term Business policy and have been operating your business for at least 24 months

Are there other qualifications I need to meet the Entrepreneur visa?
You must meet the minimum English language standards, and New Zealand’s health and character requirements.  Minimum English standards required can be met if you pass the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum band score of Level 4.

You will additionally need to show how your business is benefiting New Zealand; for instance, through employing or training staff, via export, or by promoting New Zealand’s economic growth in some way.

How long is this visa granted for?
This is a permanent visa, allowing multiple entry into New Zealand.

Are there any age restrictions for this visa?
No.
