FAQs

In addition to my completed application, what else will you need from me?

Several things:

Does it matter what country I’m in when I apply?

No, you can apply from New Zealand or another country. The application will be processed at the Immigration New Zealand branch closest to the employer offering you the job.

How long will it take to be approved for this visa?

It depends on the processing time at the branch where your application is submitted and on the work required to verify your application. The best way to ensure that the application is processed as quickly as possible is to submit a complete and well organised application. To check estimated branch processing times, click here and select the appropriate branch.

Can I start working before I apply, or while my application is being processed?

Yes, your visa will be issued for the duration of the employment offer even if you start working before it is processed. Don’t forget the offer must be for a minimum of twelve months and a maximum of 24 months.

What happens if I want to stay longer than the job offer?

If your initial job offer is for less than the maximum 24 months and they decide to keep you longer, or you find skilled employment elsewhere, than you can apply for the remainder of the 24 months available under the policy. Note that the second offer must also be valid for a minimum of 12 months.
