Applications and Timing

Silver Fern Job Search Visa

Your application must be submitted online through Immigration New Zealand’s online system. The annual quota for the visa is 300 and resets every year on 27 April. Once the quota is met, there will not be new spaces released. However, it’s worth checking back in case applicants submitted have cancelled or been declined.

If your online application is accepted, you will receive an email from immigration to let you know what documents they need and where to send them. You’ll need to submit:

  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond the intended stay in New Zealand
  • Evidence of funds equal to or greater than NZ$4,200
  • Evidence of English language ability
  • Evidence of your qualification
  • Evidence of work experience if you have a trade qualification
  • Medical and police certificates.

The application is available through Immigration New Zealand’s online services.

FAQs

How do I provide evidence of funds?

Evidence of your funds can be shown with bank statements, travellers’ cheques or credit card statement showing sufficient credit. Statements must be in your name and show your own funds. The minimum amount required is NZ$4,200.

How do I provide evidence of my qualification?

If your qualification is not on the List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment, you will need to provide a New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Assessment with your application.  If your field of employment requires occupational registration in New Zealand, you must show that you hold, or can obtain registration for that occupation in New Zealand.

Why do I need to provide medical and police certificates?

You must meet the health and character requirements applicable to people who intend to stay in New Zealand for at least 24 months. Since you intend on finding long-term skilled employment, you may end up staying for the full 24 months. Visit Immigration New Zealand to find out more about health and character requirements
